What Is Country Rustic & Primitive Décor?
Country Rustic Décor is a popular decorating style these days. Part of the reason is the desire of many people to get back to a more natural life style. The more hectic our lives become, the more we look for ways to relieve the stress we fell. The term “Country Rustic” is a very broad terminology but basically leans towards the concept of the early American country décor of the 1800’s. In reality, it borrows the country style from French, English, Swedish, German and other European countries. Generally defined as simple and charming, coarse and unfinished yet having its own unique and endearing qualities. When one thinks of a home that is decorated in Country Rustic Décor, the usually think of a home that is modest, comfortable and friendly. Rustic country decorating usually includes the use of natural woods, aged surfaces, rough finishes and simple lines. Rustic country decor is about handcrafted objects, simplicity, furnishings that you enjoy and connecting back to nature.
To decorate with Country Rustic Décor basically means using items like antique furniture or reproductions, flea-market pieces, trunks, flower wreaths, quilts, chests, armoires, period appropriate furniture and accessories that basically look 100 plus years old. Everything should look like it is well used and enjoyed. These types of elements will give almost any home the kind of rustic country feel that is simpler, very personal and warmly inviting.
Although some professional decorators may say that there is a specific way to use Country Rustic Décor when decorating, the real truth is that they don’t have to live in your home (at least I hope not) you do. We can and will be making some suggestions in upcoming posts but when all is said and done, you need to use what you like and want, put your items where and when you want, and you need to allow the decorating to be an off shoot of your own personality. Your individual likes and dislikes will be what makes your home – your home!
